Soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center’s Medical Hold Unit say they have been told they will wake up at 6 a.m. every morning and have their rooms ready for inspection at 7 a.m., and that they must not speak to the media.
“Some soldiers believe this is a form of punishment for the trouble soldiers caused by talking to the media,” one Medical Hold Unit soldier said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.
It is unusual for soldiers to have daily inspections after Basic Training.
Soldiers say their sergeant major gathered troops at 6 p.m. Monday to tell them they must follow their chain of command when asking for help with their medical evaluation paperwork, or when they spot mold, mice or other problems in their quarters.
They were also told they would be moving out of Building 18 to Building 14 within the next couple of weeks. Building 14 is a barracks that houses the administrative offices for the Medical Hold Unit and was renovated in 2006. It’s also located on the Walter Reed Campus, where reporters must be escorted by public affairs personnel. Building 18 is located just off campus and is easy to access.
The soldiers said they were also told their first sergeant has been relieved of duty, and that all of their platoon sergeants have been moved to other positions at Walter Reed. And 120 permanent-duty soldiers are expected to arrive by mid-March to take control of the Medical Hold Unit, the soldiers said.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Army public affairs did not respond to a request sent Sunday evening to verify the personnel changes.
The Pentagon also clamped down on media coverage of any and all Defense Department medical facilities, to include suspending planned projects by CNN and the Discovery Channel, saying in an e-mail to spokespeople: “It will be in most cases not appropriate to engage the media while this review takes place,” referring to an investigation of the problems at Walter Reed.

1Alright, fine. I take back the “facist douchebag” part.
But I didn’t see anywhere above the blue line any phrase that says, I turn into some conscripted slave.
Sure, you give up some privileges, but nothing in the ammendments get crossed out.
Where appropriate you can still speak to anyone you please as long as it doesn’t compromise security.
If really have spent time in the services, then you already know this.

2All the money we misplaced privatizing this war and we couldn’t sink any of it into medical and rehabitalization sector for our soldiers who have sacrificed life and limb. It’s just so shameful.

3Everyone is all up in arms because there are mice at this facility.
Is anyone in the media making a big deal that these soldiers have had their arms and/or legs blown off following orders to invade and occupy a sovereign nation?
Mice can be fixed. The pain of knowing you are permenantly disabled because your country has screwed you over won’t be fixed so easily.
I used to do medical transport for the VA. Not one told me they were proud to be crippled. They all knew they’d been screwed.

4Your 1st statement is bogus. We’ve been hearing now for 4 years,(and longer), how the Repos are the party who care about and support the troops better than Demos. Really?! This disgraceful situation proves that that is not the case. Who was in charge of Senate & House Armed Services Committees for last 4 years? Repos! Wha’d they do to check up on the care of wounded vets? Nothing!! NOW Bush is covering his Repo ass.

5who’s bragging on the republicrats? I’m not. But the fact remains that the mainstream newsmedia, newswhores as I prefer, are mostly democrats(i.e. marxist) and mostly ‘cover’ or propagandize, on the issues that they perceive will help their party of choice.

6Media is not “mostly democrats or marxists”. That’s the play to the ref tactic that cons always use. Let’s see you produce any evidence, like voter registration of specific media people to support your contention. Media has a more corporate outlook, because that’s who signs the checks. Viacom, GE, FOX and Disney are anything but demos or marxists companies, sport. They are conservative, as in corp tax breaks, and expect their employees to understand that.

8Thanx for the link to your fave conservative media circus - Media Research Center. Same as Cybercast and, oh yeah, the same org trying to say that Murtha really didn’t earn his purple hearts - at least not since he dared criticize the Iraq war. Maybe you also know what the Swift Boaters for Truth are doin’ these days too while you’re about it?

9well I know what you are now, somewhere between clueless and lowlife. I’ve been a political activist for ten+ years and I know ‘Liberal’ scum when I seen, hear, read them. I don’t apologize for telling the truth. And contrary to your ignorance I don’t blindly vote for the republicrats. Why do you hate freedom so much anyway?

10“Hate Freedom”? U did not pay attention to the header on this clip. Who was suppressing the truth and “freedom” here? U, as neocons always do, attack the messenger, and never deal with the message. Who was in charge here while our troops, the ones you pretend to support, were being systematically deprived of human decency and respect for their sacrifice? Liberals? U R N ASS.
