This is what happens when TV camera’s masturbate! In this case, the camera (Canon ZR70) is shooting through a mask I made in Photoshop and imported into the camera. The center of the mask is black allowing the video signal through to recirculate when pointed at the TV set displaying the live camera image. The camera in addition to having a Mask Mode engaged, is also set to MIRROR. What you see is produced by rotating the video camera “just so” to produce the video feedback. Other settings needing care are the Zoom ratio, brightness of the TV set, and light sensitivity of the camera. Once you set up the interactive space, you can put a moving “whatever” between the camera and TV set (or video projection screen serving as monitor) allowing the moving whatever (lights and bodies are nice) to CONTROL the video feedback via how fast, what angle and what distance the movement is between lens and screen. Here is an example from my V.A.R.I.O.U.S. Media Ink Vvisionary Artists Showcase and Networking Event: http://www.archive.org/details/maui
This video demonstrates principles of optics, video recirculation, dynamics of light, and the technology behind what we call, TELEVISION. Its the timing of the scan lines and the changing of the camera lens angle that create a sort of Fractal Morie pattern that animates as you move the camera. Try it, you’ll like it!
NOTE: This video includes my song “COOL IN THE SHADE” The finishing processes are being applied to this demo! Contact me for use and rights! All rights reserved.
