Mission:

The “International Chinese Classical Dance Competition” will launch a new era in Chinese dance by inspiring the creation of dance pieces, fostering cultural exchange, and promoting traditional dance of pure authenticity, pure goodness, and pure beauty.

Organizers and Co-organizers:

The Competition will be hosted by New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV); Epoch Times and Sound of Hope radio will co-host. NTDTV satellite television and the NTDTV website will broadcast the Competition proceedings around the globe and also work with supportive media to report on the winning contestants.

Judges’ Committee:

The Judge’s Committee will be composed of experienced dance experts, including those involved in design and performance in NTDTV’s Chinese New Year Spectacular, the troupe leader of the Divine Beauty Performing Arts Group, the troupe leader of the Lotus Performing Arts Group, and the troupe leader of the Renaissance Performing Arts Group. The Judges’ Committee will be given full authority to engage in the evaluation tasks of the Competition.

Content of the Competition:[1]

- Includes solo, duet, or trio dances.[2]
- The dance routines in the Competition will be less than two minutes long.
- During the Preliminary Competition, performance of the individual routine counts for 70% of the total score.
- For the Semi-Finals, in addition to dance routine, a required set of movements (leaps, turns, flip, and control) will be one minute.
- For Finals, dance routine, one minute of required set of movements and one minute of individual choice set will be performed.
- For both the Semi-Finals and Finals, a different routine may be selected.

Notes:
[1] For the basic skills of classical dance, apart from one set of required movements, the skills and movements for the individual choice set may be selected according to the dancer’s own strengths in order to display a unique style.
[2] Contestants participating in the duet or trio dances may invite dance partners to participate and perform. If the dance partners will participate in the Competition, they will also need to formally register.

Qualifications to Enter the Competition:

The Contestants must comply with the requirements of the Rules and Regulations of this Competition.
All dance teachers and dancers from professional arts academies and dance troupes and dance instructors, dancers, and dance students from professional dance schools between the ages of 14 — 40 may register and participate.
The age limits of the Competition are as follows: Junior Division: age 14 - 17; the Adult Division: age 18 — 40.
All those under the age of 18 must have a legal guardian sign the entry form.
Contestants must submit two 2″ color photos, a detailed resume, and a photocopy of valid ID. Those who are able to do so should email digital photographs along with a resume to the Judge’s Committee.
Qualifying for the Competition: After the Judge’s Committee has reviewed all of the materials of the applicants, it will send an “NTDTV International Chinese Classical Dance Competition Invitation” to those who meet the criteria. The Contestants may use this Invitation to apply for visas and enter the Competition.
All Contestants shall comply with all the arrangements of the Judge’s Committee; the Judge’s Committee has the right to revoke the entry qualifications of those Contestants who fail to do so.

iv. The Contestants must fill in the contact information as required on the registration form. For example, telephone, mobile phone, and email address.
v. Personal information:
- Contestants who may choose to send in a DVD (VCD) or a regular ½” VHS tape, preferably in NTSC format.
- The videotapes, VCD’s and DVD’s must not be enhanced or edited.
- The DVD or video should have the Contestants’ Division, name of the dance routine, and the Contestant’s name clearly marked on the cover. In addition, no subtitles or logos that reveal any information about the Entrant may appear within the audio or image or else it will be considered an act of forfeiture. The above materials should be sent to the Judge’s Committee via express mail. All materials submitted by the Contestants will not be returned.
vi. Registration Fee: Junior Division: US$20, Adult Division: US$50. Method of payment for the registration fee: cash, credit card, or money order.

Competition Location:

Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at New York University, New York, USA.

- July 6th, Preliminary Round;
- July 7th, Semi-Final Round;
- July 8th, Final Round and Award Ceremony.

Note [3]: All pre-qualified contestants and persons accompanying the contestants will receive complimentary tickets to performance of Divine Beauty Performing Arts Group on July 8th, Semi-Final on July 7th, Final and Awards Ceremony on July 8th.

Rules for Traveling, Meals and Accommodation:

The competition organizer will provide transportation for all pre-qualified contestants from metro-New York airports to designated hotels upon arrival as well as transportation between hotels and competition location;

Meals and accommodation for all contestants who enter Semi-Final Round and/or Final Round will be provided by the competition organizer, starting from noon, July 6th to noon, July 8th. The expenses of meals and accommodation of other contestants will be covered by themselves.[4]

Note [4]: Expenses for travel, meals and accommodation of persons accompanying the competitors will be paid by themselves. The Competition Organizing Committee is willing to make arrangements for them at certain assigned hotels.

Evaluation and Scoring:

The Competition will be conducted with on-site scoring.

Placement Awards:

Gold award is $10,000, Silver award is $3,000, Bronze award is $1,000;
- Adult Division, Male, 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze, 3 Honorable Mention.
- Adult Division, Female, 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze, 3 Honorable Mention.
- Junior Division, Male, 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze, 3 Honorable Mention.
- Junior Division, Female, 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze, 3 Honorable Mention.

Other

- Since Communist Party is outlawed in the United States, all songs and music that eulogize Communist Party will be prohibited during this competition. Contestants might want to send their dance music to the Judge’s Committee for assessment in order to avoid unnecessary problems.
- Chinese and Western classical music pieces could be selected as dance music. In addition, a portfolio of pre-selected music and songs are provided on the official website of this competition as an alternative option for contestants. (Download Music)
- Contestants will take full responsibility to any copyright issues related to the dance music they choose for the competition.
- During the Competition, all audiovisual copyrights shall belong to NTDTV.
- All rights of interpretation shall belong to NTDTV.
- After the on-site Awards ceremony for the Finals, if any international performance companies wish to sign a contract with a Contestant, the Contestant must notify the Judge’s Committee.
- Contestants will be responsible for any accident or injury that occurs in the course of competition;
- In the event of any change to the above rules and regulations, the Judge’s Committee shall provide further notice.
